Capitalism vs. Democracy

Not Quite Yet.
Don't let this happen.  Vote Democratic in the next election.  Get those Republicans out of The House and out of Congress so that President Obama can get something accomplished.  I think Obama is someone capable of growing and learning.  I'm sure he has learned a lot during his first term and is better equipped to handle his job now.

I think the Fran Lebowitz quote only shows that many, if not most, people consider economics more important than philosophy or their religion.  After all, communism was the state religion.  Money should not be a person's #1 priority in life.  The welfare of people is more important.  The argument can be made that money improves the welfare of people.  But, only if it is at least somewhat evenly distributed, which in the USA it doesn't seem to be.  History shows us that when the gap between the rich and the poor becomes too great, revolution occurs.  (i.e., The French Revolution, the Russian Revolution).

"To all the worryworts out there who said super PAC's were going to lead to a cabal
of billionaires secretly buying democracy. WRONG.
They are PUBLICLY buying democracy." Colbert.

We've been all through this before.
When it's over we will come out stronger.

Religious People Aren’t Always Ethical People.

Juan Cole

The thing I most object to in Romney is that he is willing to kill people to get elected, even though he knows better. He believes in Obamacare, obviously, but says he will repeal it. He knows the score on climate change, but is going to deliver us into the scalding clutches of Big Oil. He is a walking billboard for the message that religious people aren’t always ethical people....Juan Cole

Paul Ryan Left 1-5 million-dollar Trust Off Disclosure Forms Until He Was Vetted. Paul Ryan and his wife inherited between $1-5 million in 2010, he forgot to disclose it for two years.  Ryan considers himself a devoted Catholic.

If religious people aren't ethical maybe they don't really understand religion, since religion is mostly an ethical system.  I think that these people think they are religious but their religion is not their first priority.  Power to them is more important and more appealing.  Personally, I don't consider people genuinely religious unless religion is their number one priority.  They are only playing at religion....Gayle Alstrom

A Great Prayer for the Beginning of the Work Week

This is a prayer from the  book "The Prayers of Peter Marshall."  It seems to me it is a great prayer for the beginning of the work week.

I think this prayer answers the question of how much do we depend on God and how much on ourselves.  It seems to me it's a matter of knowing not to turn our own responsibilities over to God, but to know that he is there to help us have the strength to fulfill our responsibilities.  Our strength will be in proportion to our faith.

I haven't written on this blog for a long time, because I've gotten so involved in one of my other blogs, which is called "Old Woman on a Bicycle."  I actually have followers on that blog, so that makes me take more of an interest in it.  However, after putting down "Ulysses" for a long time, I'm back to reading again, so I think I will be adding to the posts I've already written on "Ulysses."  Also my interest in current politics is sliding away.  The Republicans and Romney makes me so angry that I've just started avoiding listening to political commentary any more.  Although, after the Supreme Court decision on Obamacare, I was reved up enough to donate online $4 each to Obama and Gillibrand.  Take that Mr. Romney.
