Styles That Might Not Catch On

I'm posting this for two reasons:  #1) As a hot as this is, no aspect of it will ever be a part of anyone's wardrobe,  and #2) To let you know that tomorrow I plan to post  a whole lot of Simone Nobili,  at long last.

Charlie Hunnam made quite a splash when he played Nathan in the original U.K. version of Queer As Folk, fourteen years ago. Fourteen years ago!  He is now one of the stars of Sons of Anarchy,  and is still a fine figure of a man.  He is thirty-three years old today.

Happy Birthday To My Fake Boyfriend

Alex Pettyfer, still my fake boyfriend after all these years, celebrates his 23rd birthday today.  Despite what the tabloid media reports, he has been in a loving relationship with actress Riley Keough for well over a year. (I try to not hold a grudge.) He will next appear, along with the starriest of all-star casts in Lee Daniels' The Butler, a film that will either be cleaning up at the Oscars next year or a complete trainwreck. In May he will begin filming the lead role in a remake of the eighties schlock classic Endless Love. I must admit that I don't quite know what to make of this.  The original film was based upon a very highly regarded novel, but was... how do I put it... not good.  So, we'll see how this goes.

The Beach Party In The Sky

 

What?  You thought I'd be writting about Margaret Thatcher?  This is how I will always remember Annette Funicello. The Mickey Mouse Club was already a  nostalgic remnant of a long distant past when I became acquainted with it through reruns on the local afternoon kiddie show in the mid 1970s.  Truth be told, I was immune to some of her more obvious charms,  but I always liked her, and I enjoyed living vicariously through her whenever cute boys like Tim Considine went gaga over her on Mickey Mouse Club serials like Spin and Marty and Annette.  Later, she was in all those beach party movies with Frankie Avalon, which were a gas, man, but she was not really the main attraction as far as I was concerned. She was a woman of limited talent, but whether she was pushing peanut butter in TV commercials, or turning up on talk shows,  she always seemed like sweetheart, which even more that her famous bosum, must have been the key to her success.

I'm sure that this photograph, taken from a fashion editorial, made perfect sense in its original context.  Actually, I'm not sure of that at all.  I'd love it if someone could explain.
